Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Star Trek: Into Darkness film similarities

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS

I saw Captain America: TWS in theaters today. Absolutely loved it! I got to thinking later on, and I eventually realized how similar some elements were between these two films. So without further ado...

1) Both films begin with the protagonists in trouble for withholding information. Kirk is suspended for keeping the information about the ship being revealed to the Nibiru civilians. Meanwhile, Cap is in some deep trouble for keeping the info on as to why Fury was in his apartment before what was thought to be his death.

2) Both feature major villains that are physically/genetically enhanced with super abilities. Granted, not that uncommon, but let's go further. Both villains were also cryogenically frozen for long periods of time and are from the past. They also each attempted to assassinate the main protagonist's "inspirations". Khan attempted, and successfully killed Pike, while Bucky attempted to kill Fury (and as far as the audience knew at the time, he succeeded).

3) Both protagonists are put in charge of capturing the villains. However, they soon find out they are not the biggest threat. Both of the villains were hired by people high up at the very organizations the protagonists worked for. Khan was hired by Marcus at Starfleet, where Kirk worked, while Bucky was hired by Pierce at SHIELD, where Captain America "worked". Both of these people (Marcus and Pierce) show to be the true villains, ushering in plans of false war/destruction with the use of badass airborne vehicles that their organizations lack the knowledge of (of the plan, not vehicles). Not only were Bucky and Khan hired by them, but they were also unfrozen by them from the cryogenics.

4) Both of these films end in the death of the two men most responsible for the (near) destruction. Marcus dies at the hands of Khan, while Pierce dies at the hands of Fury. However, both of the original villains (Bucky and Khan) remain alive.

5) Both of the protagonists face near death, ultimately being saved, whether intentionally or unintentionally, by the antagonists. Cap loses consciousness and falls into water, nearly drowning, yet is saved willingly by Bucky. Kirk however, is considered dead for a short period due to radiation, yet is revived (indirectly) by Khan. A form of Khan's blood was used to revive him.
6) Last but not least, both films have a blond "captain" :D


Love both of these films, so realizing some of these similarities was rather fun. Let me know if there anything else I missed!
