Slow loading Finder in Apple Mac Maverick (fixed)

Ever since Apple's Maverick OS update, accessing documents through applications has become a tedious affair for users. The finder takes forever to load the contents of the directory users are trying to access. This is because the file open dialogue scans the folder every time through the automount command. It is essentially a fault in the new OS which hopefully will be resolved some time in the future. Since recent updates have not addressed this issue, I decided to take matters in my hands and solve the problem myself.

On your Mac, open your finder and navigate to Applications>Utilities. There open the program called Terminal (see the image to the right, this is the icon you are looking for). Enter in the following command (it will probably require you to enter your account password to authorize the code):

sudo vi /etc/auto_master

In this file comment out /net with #  (#/net .....)

sudo automount -vc

This code will disable the automount and that in turn stops the slowdowns. Will it make you rich and sexy? No. Do you loose something? No, there is no risk. But you will be able to work a bit faster.

Please note you may have to enter this good again in the terminal when you update your operating system.
