OUT OF TIME - PAGE 3
The Making Of
Script
PAGE 3
Panel 1
Max leans backward into the vortex, while his right hand moves towards the button with the engraved T on his right chest. It's now Benoid’s turn to use the calm down gesture with his arms. The gesture is shown to the right, but of course we see Benoid from behind, turned roughly 45 degrees.
BENOID SYC
Don’t worry, we’ll let you live and return to your time.
Panel 2
Having conquered his fear, Max now decides to challenge Benoid, outraged by the murder of his colleagues.
BENOID SYC
When you do, tell your...
MAX TEMPUS
Wait a sec. Why did you kill the other Timenauts?
Panel 3
Benoid looks surprised, as if taken by surprise. It takes him a while to gather his wits and answer the question.
BENOID SYC
… You cannot be allowed to know your future. If you do, you could destroy all future timelines, erasing our very existence.
Panel 4
Max is still agitated, asking the question in a confrontational manner, as if he suspects that Benoid is up to no good despite his assurance that he will let him live. He points his finger at Benoid.
MAX TEMPUS
Then why are you letting me live?
Layouts
When Andrea supplied his original layouts, I had a few requests for him:
Page 3, panel: 1 It's important that we see fear in Max's posture. He should be leaning back. It should also be clear that he's attempting to leave and that Benoid is stopping that action by trying to soothe him. Also, Max would work better if he was right handed- that is what the audience is used to seeing 90% of the time.
Panel 2 and 3 - I am not sure how they relate to the script. In panel 2 we have Max challenging Benoid (Benoid is being reasonable, Max cuts him off aggressively). In panel 3 we have Benoid acting surprised.
Roughs
As you can see, Andrea responded to the notes on the layout by changing them during the rough stage.
Page 3, panel 4: please take care of the pose of the character in the final page.
