Damaged Universe #0 - Page 12 / A Webcomic
The Making Of
Script by Lorenz Lammens
PAGE 12
Page 12 is a bit of a weird page. It doesn’t advance the story at all, and the most important image is that of the statue of Grand Master Graul. It sets up the notion that he will be the savior of mankind, which will be in stark contrast to his role in Arc 1. The payoff for this question will not occur until Arc 5. It is simply there to titillate the people who use Prequel 0 in an effort to guess how the Opus story will evolve.
Panel 1
We see the bustling street from above. To the left is a giant statue, carved into a building as if it were a golem. The statue portrays a monstrous creature, holding a book in its right hand. Its left hand is raised up high, as if he is lecturing a crowd. The plaque underneath the statue reads "Grand Master Graul, Savior of Mankind."
CAPTION:
This is the last remaining bubble of their world. And it's about to be swallowed up…
CAPTION:
… because this is the final day of Planet Earth.

The pose for Grand Master. I don’t know how much of his body you’ll use, but the plaque of the statue needs to be clearly visible and easy to read. The picture on the side has a lectern, of course, Grand Master will not have a lectern.
Grand Master will also be more angled, so we’ll see him roughly 45 degrees from the side.
The statue shows him in the garb he wore at his commencement address. See an example to the left or visit this page for more examples.
He also wears the traditional mortar board hat that Jobs here isn’t wearing.
We want to impress with this garb how integrated Grand Master has gotten into society.
Even though Grand Master is touted as a hero on the plaque, he can’t help but have a smug and self serving grin on his face. It looks evil and puts the statue that much more in contrast to its inscription.
The statue to the left looks out over the Christmas bubble scene below. The skyline shows the battered city that lays beyond the bubble. It essentially combines the two images of Page 11 into 1.
Below, Future is standing still, looking to his right at the busy Christmas scene while his Vortex effect, still pretty violent, is wrapping up. He touches his wrist time machine in an effort to shut down the Vortex. From our angle, Future’s body is quite small (we’re a ways up, after all), but the Vortex effect makes it easy to identify him. The violence of the Vortex effect also creates a considerable contrast with the people shopping and ignoring it (how could they not see it?) and underlines Future’s captioned monologue. Remember, this is a dense crowd that will need to part once Future starts moving to his right.
It would be good if we could see Lucius Hall (with coat as described in next panel) and The Damned already in the crowd as well, but Page 13, panel 1 will give more opportunity to show the clearly. They are however already in the crowd.
